BIOL 1002 : Test 3
Document Summary
Differentiated cells contribute to 3 tissue systems: dermal tissue (epidermis, single celled layered, very similar to our very own skin, vascular tissure, xylem-transports water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the shoot. Sleve tube element =living cells but not all there: they are controlled by their companion cells. They can preform most metabolic functions of plant: photosynthesis, food storage, synthesis and secretion. A potato is a root plant and full of starch. Its storageing sugar for the plant, so it can use that food when it looses its food for the leaves in the fall. Parenchyma cells that are in leaves that do photosythiese. And the cells that don"t get light will store the sugar: collenchyma. Cells with unevenly thickened walls that lack lignin: lignin makes the cell walls really rigid and extremely strong, since these celsl don"t have lignin, they are extremely flexible, like celery=bc it is flexable to its breaking point.
