Guys were interested in documenting languages which are possible of being lost. It gets lost by some children making the decision to stop using the ancestral language, so when those children grow up the language is gone. Russian is the reason that native siberian languages are being wiped out. Someone worked on chulym 30 years ago and it hasn"t been visited since. Most living chulym speakers were very old and almost deaf so they were hard to speak to. Start small with words and then they start saying sentences without asking. Has one word that can be a whole sentence. Chulym language doesn"t have a writing system but one of the speakers had invented his own writing system. He threw away the papers because he felt ashamed to be writing in that language. David and greg found 9 chulym speakers but by 2008 four of them had died.
