Document Summary

Maintains constancy of the chromosome # from 1 gen to the next by reducing the chromosome. Allows random assortment of maternal and paternal chromosome between gametes. Relocates segments of maternal and paternal chromosome by crossing over of the chromosome segments, which shules the genes and produces a recombinaion of geneic material. Oogenesis: process of ovum/egg producion; all eggs are produced in utero. Spermatogenesis: begins at puberty; as the (diploid) spermatogonium enters the irst meioic division, it is called the primary spermatocyte. During the irst cell division, it replicate and forms two haploid cells termed secondary spermatocytes; during the second meioic division they divide to form 4 spermaids each with a haploid number of chromosomes. Occurs in female reproducive tract and takes about 7 hours to complete. E. chemical signal results in 2nd meioic division =nucleus of egg forms. Cleavage = rapid divisions that occur in the cells that cause the cells to form a mass called the morula.
