Document Summary

Know the effects of alpha and beta receptors. Alpha 1 vasoconstriction (this is going to increase bp), mydriasis (big pupils) Alpha 2 peripheral norepinephrine release, central reduced sympathetic outflow to heart and blood vessels, relief of severe pain. Beta 1 increased hr: remember, you have 1 heart and it"s affected by beta 1 receptors. Beta 2 bronchodilation: remember, you have 2 lungs and they"re affected by beta 2 receptors, also affects the uterus. Dopamine renal vessel dilation (why we give dopamine to patients in shock, to save their kidneys), also activates beta 1 receptors to enhance cardiac performance. Increase bp, increase hr, relax bronchioles, dilate pupils (mydriasis), relax the uterus, and increase blood sugar. Increase hr, decrease mucus secretions, decrease gi motility, increase urinary retention, dilate pupils (mydriasis) Decrease bp, decrease hr, constrict bronchioles, constrict pupils (meiosis remember, smaller pupils are described by the word that"s smaller than mydriasis), increase urinary contraction, increase peristalsis.
