Document Summary

St. lawrence lowland is where the population is, the lowland made the cities. Before modern technology a person would have to switch transportation to get around them. La chine rapids = china rapids, champlain thought that he was finding the northwest passage and he named it wrong. People are also in the clay belt & the stream off of the st. lawrence (above quebec) at the big drop off of the shield. There is promise of hydroelectricity- saguenay river & lake st. john. Eastern townships- just to the south and the east of the st. lawrence lowland. It is not hugely fertile here but can support some population. It was colonized by the english but is currently very french. In quebec 20% of people are french, mostly located in montreal because of commerce. Even though france has evolved they seemed afraid to follow. They have put pressure on the land located on the shield for agriculture.
