Politics is the negotiation of power relationships, and government is where politics happen. Be able to describe what democracy is, both ancient and modern, and both direct and representative. Democracy is when people run the government, in ancient times like in athens all the people could get together and vote on issues (direct) whereas now days we elect representatives to vote on the issues for us (representative) Majority doesn"t mean everybody so there will always be minority groups that disagree with something, we have flexible majorities meaning that it is rare for someone to be in the minority all the time. The virginia plan proposed a bi-cameral legislature, unclear executive, national law, and representation of people. The new jersey plan proposed a unicameral legislature, multiple executives (consul), state law, representation of states. The great compromise had three co-equal branches, sufficient power to tax and deal w/ foreign affairs, split legislature, single executive, and a federal judicial system.
