Like a holiday bonus: what is a variable interval schedule, something that is based on the passage of time, and that happens every once in a while. A leader should engage in behavior that provides benefits to the subordinate. The behavior can be a reward in and of itself (like a compliment) or that behavior can be means to get some other goal (want a project to be explained clearly so that you can get a good grade. Depending upon the type of subordinate involved, and the type of task, leader behavior will be determined. Instills pride in the group, instills faith in the leader, instills a sense of vision: how does individual consideration transform a group? a. It delegates to stimulate learning: how does intellectual stimulation transform a group? a. It encourages new ideas, it encourages rethinking old ideas and encourages risk taking: what is extra-organizational communication, communication from the organization to the outside world (no one in particular).
