Lab 1: scientific investigation be well defined, measurable and controllable. Scientific investigation - quest to find the answer to a question using the scientific method. Scientific method - systematic process using measurable observations to formulate, test or modify. Hypothesis - proposed explanation for an observed phenomena based on experience and research. A hypothesis can never be proven true, data either supports it or you reject it. Variables must be well defined and measurable on y-axis in graphs. Independent = variable that is manipulated, there is only 1, goes on x-axis in graphs. Dependent = variable that is measured/ counted/ observed, there can be more than 1, goes. Control = not being tested but must be kept constant, several of them. Level of treatment= set of values used for independent variable. Control- treatment where the independent variable is absent, or treatment at a set value. Procedure- steps to be followed; includes levels of treatment, control, replication.
