Document Summary

An attitude is a positive or negative evaluations of a particular thing. Attitudes can form through classical conditioning, operant conditioning, observational learning, and heredity. These words are defined in the quizlet or slides 3 and 4. People can tell you their explicit attitude, but they cannot tell/explain their implicit attitudes. With implicit attitudes people don"t know they feel a certain way and it can come from anywhere. Explicit attitudes: a person"s conscious views toward people, objects, or concepts. That is, the person is aware of the feelings they hold in a certain context. Implicit attitudes: evaluations of people, objects, or concepts that occur without conscious awareness. That is, the person is unaware of the feelings they hold in a certain context. If we have a lot of knowledge on a particular topic and have a strong attitude about something, then very few things will push us away from that attitude.
