The 3 main methods about learning about oneself are: introspection: with this you think about your own thoughts and feelings, comparing ourselves to others: we look at others to judge ourselves. People can"t always explain why they do the things they do. The advantage is that we know things about ourselves that others don"t know. We are our biggest judge: the advantage of social comparison is that it could motivate you to be better and make you feel good about yourself depending on the type of comparison. The disadvantage is at the same time it can also reduce your motivation or make you feel bad about yourself. Social comparison is indirect: with receiving feedback from others people aren"t always accurate in their feedback.
