Document Summary

Physiology: epithelia tissue - cuboidal: secretion, thyroid/salivary glands, dice-shaped cells. Simple squamous: material exchange by diffusion, blood vessels/lung lining, single layer plate-like cells, thin/leaky, shortest diffusion distance. Stratified squamous: protective barrier, skin/ esophagus lining, multilayered, rapid regeneration. Pseudo stratified columnar: mucous membranes, respiratory tract, single layer, cells part in height/nuclei position. Epithelial cells=polarized; 2 sides; apical surface: faces lumen/outside of organ, exposed to fluid/air; basal surface. muscle tissue - skeletal muscle: attached to bones by tendons, voluntary movements, unbranched fibers, striated. Smooth muscle: walls of digestive tract/bladder/arteries, spindle-shaped cells, unstriated, involuntary body activities. connective tissue - matrix has fibroblasts (secrete fiber proteins) & macrophages (engulf foreign particles/cell debris). 3 fibers: collagenous (provide strength/flexibility), reticular (join connective tissue to adjacent tissue), & elastic (tissue elasticity). Bone: collagen fibers in calcium salts, rigid part of skeleton, support, osteoblasts. : holds organs in place, binds epithelia to underlying tissue, widespread packing material, weave of all 3 fibers.
