I was thrown into a family into which i was not blood related. Thrown into a family that wouldn"t know if i could inherit diseases or cancer. Thrown into a family where i would be completely surrounded by white people. It was not easy for me to be a mixed child growing up in a white integrated family. Going out in public with my family was hard and it always made me feel self-conscious. I could only think about the judgments of the people surrounding me. All i felt i could do was avoid my feelings and emotionally cut myself off from my family.
