What we do currently as a field to describe and diagnosis and attempt to understand mental illness. For mental disorders, known in a vague sense (risk factors, frequent forms of etiology) Speaking of them at the group or population level, and don"t always hold true to a person. Don"t always have good information available/are nonspecific about risk factors. Big risk factors: poverty (socioeconomic conditions) because of association with higher level of stress and substance abuse. Hearing voices, delusions, paranoia, loss of emotion, detachment from reality, disorganized behavior. Can be associated with violence, plot devices to explain something in cinema, and isn"t actually part of the disorder, but just of the characterization. Delusions based on numbers and the reality that surrounded her. Feels on a regular basis she can get shot based on rules she knows and the stakes are high but she is calm.
