Taxonomy dissects the general category of "animal" into a system based on perceived similarities and differences according to certain distinctive features of the various species, and by classifying animals into classes, we are able to understand them better. Taxonomy in literature, film, etc. seems to fulfill a similar task. So in film, the taxonomy of films is called genre, it implies that works of literature, films, television programs, radio, etc, can all be categorized. So with genre, people are able to distinguish the similar films into genres, and we can thus understand the films better. It should not make us believe genres are objectively observable facts. Explain with the help of the cognitive approach.
