Monica sone, a student at the university of washington, wrote her memories as a nisei in december 1941 when she heard that japanese attacked on pearl harbor. In the end sone and her family were sent to an internment camp because of their japanese identities. Sone wrote that she was in a choir rehearsal for christmas with her friends when she heard the news that japan bombed pearl harbor in hawaii from another student at the university of washington. They did not want to believe in what they heard, and hoping that was a joke. Their music director even shouted to that student and asked him to stop joking. However, later they found that it was true, and all of them were shocked by that terrible news at that moment. Sone was overwhelmed by an unspoken mixed feeling, because she found that she had japanese blood in her body.
