ANAT 102 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Primary Olfactory Cortex, Auditory Cortex, Visual Cortex

85 views5 pages

Document Summary

Telencephalon (cerebrum)- consists of corpus callosum, cerebral cortex, and limbic system (hippocampus, amygdala, and olfactory bulb/nerve) The cortical lobes/gyri of the same hemisphere are connected by association fibers/tracts. Projection fibers/tracts connect the cortex to subcortical structures. Central sulcus- separates precentral gyrus from postcentral gyrus (or frontal lobe from parietal lobe) Frontal lobe- primary motor cortex (in precentral gyrus), broca"s area, and prefrontal cortex. Occipital lobe- primary visual cortex and visual association area. Temporal lobe- primary auditory cortex, auditory association area, and primary olfactory cortex. Parietal lobe- primary somatosensory cortex (in postcentral gyrus) and somatosensory association area. Wernicke"s area- located in the left hemisphere and is involved in recognizing, understanding, and comprehending spoken/written language. Broca"s area- located in the left hemisphere and is the motor speech area. If you fracture the frontal lobe, you can expect reduced motor skills, sudden changes in behavior, declining intelligence, etc.
