127 views4 pages

Document Summary

A healthy eardrum has a cone of light , which is the light you see when look with an otoscope. Stapes moves in and out of the oval window to displace fluid in the bony labyrinth. Round window moves out as the oval window moves in, acts as a pressure valve, allows fluid to move. The cochlea is organized in tonotopic organization , which is the way hair cells are organized in it (high frequency at base, low frequency at apex). Otoacoustic emissions (oaes): when you send a sound in the ear, the cochlea makes a seperate sound it sends out (shows normal hair cell function). Otoscope: to turn on, push button and turn ring. Use disposable tips when putting into the ear. Brace your hand on the patient"s cheek or head to avoid injury to the ear canal. It can get very hot so be sure to turn off.
