Document Summary

Intermittent refers to anything other than continuous: describe the continuous reinforcement schedule (crf) procedure. A crf is the simplest schedule of reinforcement. In this procedure, every operant required by the contingency is reinforced. Typically, organisms respond rapidly until the organism is satiated. Ratio schedules are response based--set to deliver reinforcement following a prescribed number of responses. Intervals schedules pay off when one response is made after some amount of time has passed. Both of these can be fixed or variable: describe the fixed ratio (fr) schedule. An fr schedule is programmed to deliver reinforcement after a fixed number of responses have been made. The typical pattern of response observed is a rapid run of response, followed by reinforcement, and then a pause in responding: describe the variable ratio (vr) schedule. A variable ratio schedule is a procedure in which the number of responses for reinforcement changes after each reinforcer is presented.
