PSY 452 Study Guide - Quiz Guide: Spaced
Document Summary
You will remember this better when relating the information to yourself. Requires organization and elaboration which increase the probability of recall. Provides a way to structure very abstract ideas. Ex. (chase & simon) chess (typical vs. random arrangement). Massed practice is studying all material in one block of time. Spaced practice is spread out over multiple sessions. Kornell (2009) ss studied vocabulary words; massed leads to more confidence, spaced leads to better performance. Blocking: study/practice only information on the same topic. Rohrer & taylor (2007) ss learned formulas over 2 weeks; everyone takes test 1 week after practice. Blocked perform better in practice (copy & paste); interleaved perform better on test.
