The interesting thing about the human language in comparison to animal communication systems is that they"re actually not all that different. Although there are some differences between the two systems, both share the same innate function to communicate in order to survive. Within the textbook understanding language, elizabeth winkler (2012) does an excellent job exploring both similar and contrasting elements to each species way of expressing themselves. Chapter two of this text delves deep into the world of how both animals and humans share their thoughts, feelings, and basic instincts. After thoroughly reading this chapter, it is safe to conclude that both the text and my own personal experiences correlate to the fact that regardless of the species, our language systems serve the same purpose: to survive. To begin to understand the similarities between humans and animals in terms of how they communicate, it is essential to establish what primal communication consists of.
