Description of a field by a river. She is stuck on the little island of shalott. She always sees people passing by on boats and barges and hear her singing an eerie song. Lancelot sees her and thinks that she"s pretty so he says a little prayer for her. Monologue of ulysses who is bored and not satisfied on his little island of ithaca. Bored after returning from war ( he"s actually odysseus), he wants to do something interesting with his life. He"s built for adventure so he"s rusting away in ithaca, see"s himself as heroic even though he"s old. Good example of victorian thinking: he will strive no matter what. Ulysses thinks that he should be the king of ithaca. Meant to represent the artist and their isolation. Whatever is happening outside is what is happening inside of the characters. Woman comes in wet, takes off her clothes, bares her shoulder and then he strangles her. tone:
