Virtue ethics (what kind of person should i be?) Everything has a function and a thing is good if it fulfills its function. We are not born virtuous, but we become virtuous with good education early on and practice. Doctrine of the mean: the intermediate is good, deficient or excessive is bad. Acting virtuously: need to know the right thing, choose the right thing, act from a firm character. Theory is vague: do what the virtuous person would do . Question everything (old beliefs and habits, seemingly obvious truths, and anything that has ever deceived us even once) Doubt sense data (your senses have let you down before, ex: thinking you"re awake while dreaming) You have to exist in order to doubt. If you think you"re thinking, you are thinking. Solipsism: i can only be certain that i exist, not that anyone else exists. I know for certain that i exist when i am thinking.
