Workers depended on a diet with lots of sugar. Cotton from the us and sugar from the west indies. Slavery involved the wholesale robbery of the human ideology (?) They have no standing in the us, and are officially nonpersons. Slavery is an ancient institution practiced in every society of the world for all time. African slavery was different in the americas because of its racialization. For the first time slavery became confined to one group of people. They and they alone would be deprived of their identity and experience social death.
