Detrimental effects: cause disease in immunosuppressed hosts (c. albicans), upset balance (propionibacterium acnes), & when enter normally sterile areas. Beneficial effects: compete w/pathogens for nutrients, produce :) nutrients or substances that inhibit growth of pathogens.
