Lecture: discussion on the falling sky by david kopenawa. It tries to invade kopenawa"s identity by giving him western. In a way, kopenawa is doing shamanism on us when talking through his book. When talking about his name, kopenawa brings omami (yanomami creator deity) into the picture religious belief (cosmology) is deeply engrained in his identity. (this shows how he has a completely different view of the world. ) The xaipiri are beings only understood and seen by shamans, who already have a more complex cosmology (compared to the common yanomami). There are problems (rooted to culture and cosmologies) with language and translation. Cultural pluralism: smaller groups within larger society maintain unique identities and their values & practices are accepted by the wider culture. Ontological pluralism: doctrine; different ways of modes of being. A true self of the purest element of being appearance. Spirit image animal ----- different for whoever is seeing it.
