Memory impairment plus one more additional cognitive impairment. Begin to notice the signs early on . Making a bad decision once in a while. Most common cause of dementia in people 65 and older (not a definite part of the aging process) 10% of people are over 65, while 50% of people are over the age of 80. Slightly more common in women than men. Dementia can also be caused by hiv infection (cognitive problems) and huntington"s disease (in very early stages) Replaced the term dementia with major/mild neurocognitive disorder . Intended to reduce stigma, but you can still use dementia. Focus on decline, rather than deficit, in function. New criteria focus less on memory impairments, allowing for variables associated with conditions that sometimes begin with declines in speech or language usage ability.
