Final: 3 hours but you won"t need it. Similar to mid-term, no calculators, multiple choice + short answers, equations expected to know are those used in hws. Nucleosynthesis (big bang, stars, supernova) elements needed for life (c,h,o,n) molecules needed for life (amino acids, proteins, rna) life. Hypothesize (complex organic molecules required for life were easily produced on early earth) Predict (simple molecules should form more complex ones under early earth conditions) test (put some early earth gases in a beaker & expose to lightning & observe) Very simple molecules found in primitive atmosphere (h20, ch4, nh3, h2) Amino acids form after a day, but no proteins, dna, or new life. Dozens of organic molecules have been discovered in interstellar & circumstellar space (ex. sugar, cyanide, urea, benzene) These organics stick to silicate grains (dust), which get heated by uv rays when near a star. This removes the water, bakes the organics and forms complex organics such as amino acids.
