Document Summary

Brightfield microscope(light microscope)- allows rays of light to pass directly to the eye without being deflected. Care: -carry the microscope by the arm and the base with both hands. Only wipe the lens with specified lens cloths/paper. Mechanical stage- used to rest and move slides (has a knob) Condenser- condenses and directs the light (located under the stage). Diaphragm- regulates the amount of light (within the condenser) Coarse and fine adjustments- for focusing- use coarse first, then fine. Resolution or resolving power- ability to show two entities as separate objects. Parafocalization- stays focused without having to refocus when switching objectives. Best to start with low power, turn on light source, lower condenser, course adjustment until close, fine adjustment, move mechanical stage, increase magnification. Remember to add oil to oil immersion power because the a) oil has the same refractive index as glass and b) prevents the loss of light as it passes through air (see diagram on pg.
