Document Summary

Making snow from hot water: hot water evaporates easier than cold water (lecture evap factor: temperature of water, the temperature outside is well below freezing, and a cold atmosphere (lecture evap factors: dry atmosphere) Latitude insolation, pressure, belts, wind ocean circulation. Sea-surface temperatures exchange heat w/atmosphere and provide a moisture for precipitation. Climograph: the lines of the average monthly temperature and the bar graphs of the average monthly precipitation. Windward side/orographic precipitation: air forced up and over a tall barrier. Rainshadow effect: air forced down the other side. Lack of moisture, and rain, on the leeward side of a mountain. The air mass has now lost most of its moisture, which condensed out & fell as perception on the windward side. As the air descends the leeward side of the mountain, it compresses. Because heat was added during the condensation process, the air mass warms quickly, and can be warmer than it was when it originally ascended the mountain.
