Sir arthur evans- found something he called a palace Palace of king minos- very intricate, there are entrances on all four sides (cardinal points) Grand staircase- columns are simplistic, capital at top, short, they taper toward the bottom, and are origionally made of wood, and painted. There is bull imagery everywhere in the palace. Was taken to berlin and the russians are accused of taking it in wwii. In 1994 it has been displayed and it was determined to be ancient. Combination of: orally transmitted stories left over from the bronze age, visible remains of minoan and mycenaean civilizations. Loss of: literacy, art and architecture, kingship, centralized administration, economic and social systems. Greek art changes drastically while egyptian did not. All of the greeks ideas were focused on the human form. There is a sort of smile on the sculptures. Almost no greek wall or panel painting survives.
