Historically, smaller societies were able to solve their problems privately or informally. With the code of hamurabi and orly roman law, societies began to codify the law, to provide more systematic ways to deal with offenders. Many decisions made by the court system each day. Not only criminal law has issues, but civil law as well. Criminal cases only make up a fraction of the types of cases courts hear. Federal court caseload types: us district courts (lowest in the federal system) Criminal cases: 22: however, federal courts include jurisdictional courts . Depends on the type of law/case: bankruptcies, taxes, claims, trade, courts etc. State court caseload types: limited jurisdiction courts (lowest level) north carolina has 4 levels, our ljc is the district court. Civil: 14% (split between levels of court based on monetary impact) Domestic relations: 2% (divorces, restraining orders, etc. ) Juvenile: 1: general jurisdiction (next level felony trial courts ) in north carolina this is the superior court.
