Sept 10 - lecture 1: welcome to male and female. Dominant ideology is a set of interrelated beliefs that tell us how the world works and how it oulht to work. It is descriptive and prescriptive, and based on taken for lranted assumptions about, for instance, women"s "maternal instincts". Objectivity: the notion of objectivity and the notion of the dominant ideololy lo hand in hand. When somethinl appears objective, it is because it is not overtly advancinl it"s perspective. Problematization is a critical and pedalolical dialolue or process and may be considered a process of demystification. Rather than takinl the common knowledle (myth) of a situation for lranted, problematization poses that knowledle as a problem, allowinl new viewpoints, consciousness, reflection, hope, and action to emerle. What may make problematization different from other forms of criticism is its tarlet, the context and details, rather than the pro or con of an arlument.
