What is social psychology: the phenomenon of social influence; being influenced by others. It extends beyond behaviour, and includes thoughts, feelings and overt acts. Can take many forms: persuasion or just the presence of other people: even when not in the physical presence of others, they still affect us, we make decisions that would make them proud. We are also shaped by our social environment: the power of social interpretation. See how people are influenced by their interpretation (construal - the way they perceive) of their social environment: ex: in murder trials; everything depends on how people see the evidence. The role of construal in conflict negotiations: naive realism. : assume others see things the same way we do: some alternative ways of understanding social influence. It is hard to grasp how powerful a cult can be on affecting normal people. Both concerned with the influence of social and societal factors on behaviour.
