In the spirit of the below freezing canadian weather, i decided to go against the standard winter dress code. Instead of wearing layers of clothing, i walked around square one mall in a pink haiwain shirt, blue shorts, a sombrero, and sandals with one of my best friends on a busy saturday afternoon. At first, my friend and i felt very uncomfortable leaving the square one washroom dressed like we were ready to go for vacation, but for this experiment we decided to put our emotions to the side. Some individuals were very confused, others became angry saying phrases such as why would they want to do that? or that"s so stupid . And some individuals just laughed and smiled as we walked pass them. Two instances of positive reinforcement stood out to me during our experience. First, an individual came and gave me and my friend a high five" and laughed as we walked by him.
