Who were these some people? we have talked about these passive deniers, seize on any evidence to ignore/ deny acc, but there are also active deniers. Agnotology: basically how ignorance is created and sustained, if you study agnotology you are a merchant of doubt. The old term was called pseudoscience to distinguish fake science from real science. Useful but still gave too much credibility to certified scientists like someone with phd. Why science literacy movment not sufficient to lead to good science: certification does not guarantee good intentions. Recall good science uses epistemic virtues-stance of experts and institutions matter. Some epistemic virtues: sensitivity to empirical facts, plausible background assumptions, coherence with other things we know, exposure to criticism from widest variety of sources.
