Huma 1770- exam 1: part a, terms & people. Polytheism: personification of the focus of nature and the performance of rituals and sacrifices to assure the benevolence of the gods and goddesses. Greek believed in many gods ie. zeus, father of gods and men, poseidon, god of sea. Gods were immortal and controlled all aspects of nature. Quality of life was dependent on the good will of the gods. God worship was interwoven with every aspect of greek life. Began to develop on top of animism after the emergence of the first villages around 2500 bce. Alexander of macedonia (alexander the great): was one of the most successful military commanders in history. Practiced rule of force and consent claim to be son of zeus coins as mediums of exchange and of his political communication. Monotheism: the worship of a single god. Judaism, the first monotheistic religion, was founded as by abraham whose story was told in the torah.
