Many economists would claim that this event was one of the most important in human history because it affected every aspect of daily life. The dominant traditional way of understanding the emergence of the industrial revolution focuses on the rise of new technologies. However, many have questioned this interpretation arguing that the technology itself is insufficient and not as important as the social and cultural changes that were needed to reach a point of take off.
