Hellenistic egypt held many groups that established different communities and ethnicities within the diverse kingdom. Greeks and so forth, ethnicity was the basis on how society in ptolemaic egypt was constructed. This paper argues that ethnicity plays a vital role in the way society and opportunities are presented to individuals in ptolemaic egypt. The paper will be as follows; the definition of race and its relativity to ptolemaic egypt, the definition of ethnicity and the ways it is relative in. Hellenistic egypt, then, examples of the way ethnicity can be seen through ancient papyri texts and, finally, discussing fluid ethnicity. After the death of alexander the great and the rise of ptolemy in the land of egypt, the period known as ptolemaic, or hellenic, egypt began.
