Light has wave properties light travels in waves. Light has two major functions in living systems: energy, information light must be absorbed photon: packets of energy with no mass, absorbed by electrons pigment: molecules that can absorb photons of light (ex. Chlorophyll a) common in all pigments is the double/single carbon bond. Conjugated system: delocalized electrons electromagnetic radiation: when hydrogen is converted into helium at a rate of (cid:885). (cid:886) (cid:883)(cid:882) 9 hydrogen nuclei per second the sun converts over 4 million ton into energy.
