As you’ll have read in your book, anthropologists follow
an ethical code of conduct while in the field and in
handling the data collected through fieldwork.
Anthropologists often prioritize the ethical concerns of
their participants but these are not the only group of
stakeholders who anthropologists are made accountable.
The following information comes from the American
Anthropological Association’s Committee on Ethics, AAA
Ethics Blog (2016):
Do no harm text: It is imperative that, before any
anthropological work be undertaken each researcher
think through the possible ways that their research might
cause harm to the communities they work with
Be open and honest text: Anthropologists should be clear
and open regarding the purpose, methods, outcomes,
