Biological determinism: the belief much of our behavior reflects in-built biological traits such as the need to reproduce, the need to survive, and so one. The human nature explanations are essentially logical, or genetic: people act in specific ways because of their biological make up. Looking glass self: the process by which a sense of self develops. Taking the role of the other: putting themselves in someone else"s shoes to understand how someone else feels and thinks and anticipating how that person will act. According to mead and the symbolic interactionists, understanding human behavior requires a focus on the ways which meanings emerge through social interaction. Self: the picture we have of how others see us, our view of who we are. Generalized other: we can imagine how people in general might react to our behavior. Gender roles: the behavior that is socially defined as appropriate to boys or girls.
