Document Summary

Naturalistic observation: observe and quietly research behaviours; nonreactive. As soon as you start to ask questions it becomes reactive research. not nonreactive. Surverys: make sure the sample is random, and representative. (same # of male/female, random # of ethnic background etc) More in depth;qualitative+quantitative. powerful of you want to study a person in depth. Correlation: always speaks to how variables are related. (relation between x, and y) as the # increases, the relationship becomes more and more signi cant. People that see a high correlation suggest that the higher the correlation, that one variable causes the other. Might be third variable, (ice cream eaten in toronto and babies killed in bombay no correlation but third variable may contribute = heat) To know the variance in correlation, you square the correlation. To calculate the variance, the difference between each score and the mean is squared and then added together. This sum is then divided by the number of scores minus one.
