Greek words: philein to love, sophia- wisdom, philosophy is thus the love of wisdom. Philosophy includes: pursuit of wisdom about what it means to be human, what the nature of reality is, sources and limits to our knowledge, what is good and right in our lives and in our societies. The goal of philosophy is to answer these questions for ourselves and achieve autonomy: freedom of being able to decide for yourself what you will believe in by using your own reasoning abilities. Plato"s cave: told by plato in the republic (his classic philosophical work on justice, prisoners are chained to only see a wall in a dark underground cave, behind them, there is a passage that leads upstairs. Your way of looking at/view of the world is now radically different.
