Security (is everyone equally as secured, what measures security) Thursday, january 7, 2016: legal rational authority is? limited, linked to performance, based on being chosen by a set of established and accepted legal procedures. 3 types of power: traditional- prevalent in pre industrial societies. Authority is boosted by crises or unrest (weber: rational- legal authority- impersonal, derived from a position in an institution. Based on rule of law; or through fair process (ex: teacher has to have a phd to teach lecture). Legitmacy can be weakened by poor performance and corrupt behaviour. Charismatic, performance (pleases the people), he lies, breaks the law but he makes the people feel special . Ex: maintaining order (predict what is going to happen, when stores open/ close), security, economic development: critics of the concept of common good- can be tricky to achieve given diversity in community- clashing values and priorities.
