Ipsilateral = one structure on the same side as another. Contralateral = one structure on the opposite side as another. Anatomical position: the erect position of the body with the face directed forward, the arms at the side, and the palms of the hands facing forward. Subject is lying on their back in anatomical position, they"re supine. Sagittal dividing the body through midline: lateral axis (cuts left to right) Coronal (frontal) divides body into anterior & posterior halves: anteroposterior axis (cuts front to back) Transverse divides the body into upper and lower parts: vertical axis (top to bottom) Extension: increased angle of joint; to ~180o, beyond = hyperextension. Rotation: twist body part about longitudinal axis. Circumduction: combo of flexion, abduction, extension, & adduction.
