Document Summary

When we look at stars in the sky we find stars existing separately or in groups of large numbers of stars called star clusters. Two types of clusters exist open clusters or globular clusters. Open clusters, like the pleiades, are always found in the disk portion of galaxies and contain up to a thousand or so stars across an 80-ly distance. Some open clusters are quite small and some are larger, but they all seem to be quite transparent as the distance between the individual stars is relatively great. The picture of a very well known open cluster in taurus (the bull), the pleiades, is from the digitized sky survey (nasa). Many of you will be aware of the japanese car company called. Actually you will find all sorts of advertising gimmicks that subtly refer to various astronomical entities (sirius-fm satellite radio, for example).
