Space, taking just over 8 minutes to arrive at earth. The surface temperature here is only about 5,800 k, a far cry from the 15 million k in the core. Switch to full screen and you can actually see the movement of the upper surface of each granule moving like boiling mushroom soup in a pot. A logical question to ask at this point is, "how do we know all this about the sun?" After all, no astronomy student has yet volunteered to travel to the sun to check it out nor have we sent a spacecraft (manned or otherwise) to a close proximity of the. Sun to study it in detail, although there have been missions to the sun but none got very close.
