Document Summary

If there is no manipulation there is no experimental design. In other words, doing something to someone can cause them to behave differently from how they would behave otherwise. Compare what treatment (manipulation) behavior is compared to no treatment (control). Conceptual hypothesis: i think there is inherent stress in knowing you"re taking a statistics course. Operational hypothesis: if i use humour in my statistics course material then students will feel less stressed and get higher course grades. Method: one class i teach as per usual. Another class i include two cartoons in overheads per lecture and i have one joke per class that is related to statistics. If the class with the humor has a higher average course grade then the regular class (the control) then this lends supports for my conceptual hypothesis* *when we are looking at experimental design we are not proving anything.
