Nightmares: these rem dreams have a vivid, story- like quality, and occur during rem sleep. Since you are in a state of sleep paralysis, you are unable to move your body. Night terrors: a brief, often a single vision/feeling/ image that consists of very intense panic, coupled with physiological response. An example of a nigh terror is being crushed under an oppressive weight. Night terrors occur during slow wave (deep sleep) so usually during stage 3 and 4 of sleep. It is important to note that waking a sleepwalking person is not harmful. Sleepwalkers tend have very little memory of the incident, as their consciousness enters into an altered state. Some of the causes of sleepwalking in terms of biology are genetics, drugs, and certain illnesses. Act out their dreams in manners such as wild movements like kicks, punches and running into walls. The stage of sleep associated with this disorder is rem sleep.
