Ambulance and health authorities: the position of the ambulance service which is summonsed to respond to an emergency. *ambulance services owe a duty of care to a claimant, over and above the general public (much different to fire brigade/police). Pregnant woman who suffered a severe asthma attack at home. Her husband called the gp, who came to her house urgently. Gp (who was also sued) recognised they were in no position to treat this patient and that she needed urgent medical attention in hospital. Gp lodged a 999 call and the first call was at 4:25pm in which the operator responds and says that an ambulance is on its way. No ambulance turned up, so the husband made a follow up call at 4:38pm and no ambulance. Gp made another call at 4:54pm and still no ambulance. 5:05pm (40 minutes after first 999 call) with no explanation.
